On Saturday, September 13, 2025, Catholics from throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto came together to prayerfully support four men as they were ordained to the Transitional Diaconate. The transitional diaconate is an important stage in the Sacrament of Holy Orders for those men who are preparing for the priesthood. While all deacons are ordained for service to the Church, those in the transitional diaconate are on a path to becoming priests, with permanent deacons remaining in the diaconal order.

The Most Rev. John A. Boissonneau, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Toronto presided at this year’s ordinations with clergy, religious, consecrated men and women along with Catholics from throughout the archdiocese joining together to celebrate this significant milestone in the formation journey.

We offer our prayers and best wishes for those ordained on Saturday:

  • Rev. Mr. Matteo Bertozzi
  • Rev. Mr. Moonjun Alphonse Choi
  • Rev. Mr. Matthew Tulio
  • Rev. Mr. Victor Valdés

God-willing, these men will be ordained to the priesthood in May 2026, the final step in their many years of formation through St. Augustine’s Seminary and the Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary in Toronto.

If you feel God is calling you to a vocation, consider reaching out to the Archdiocese of Toronto’s Office of Vocations.

We continue to pray for those ordained on September 13 and for all those in formation at our seminaries. May the Lord continue to guide and strengthen them along the journey.
